EDEN CALLUM; It's only been a week But I know that you are mine to keep You are a radar detector We cruise the neighborhood But it's not supposed to feel this good ________________________________________________________________________
The build-up of mucus in his throat was preventing him breathing. Eden hacked out a chesty cough and spat the disgusting lump of phlegm into a nearby bush. He could practically see the look of repulsion on his mare's face. It'd dot by fault, he complained. I dob't like dis any bore dan you do! Attempting to breathe through his nose proved futile, and with a sigh Eden gave up and let his mouth hang open with each shallow gasp of air. He hated being sick. It threw a spanner in the works of all his plans; ninety-nine percent of which, included Skyla White. He hadn't seen her for at least a week, mostly due to him being so sick he'd hallucinated that he was a bird and came to his senses attempting to fly off his bed. The cause of his sickness was a mystery. He couldn't think of anyone who might have given it to him, or where he could have caught it. It didn't really matter, in the end. What had happened was Eden had gotten sick, and today was the first day he had been well enough to emerge from his dorm room without feeling nauseated.
He intended to celebrate. With a text message to Sky - Meet me at the front of the stables, 10am tomorrow xx - he had been much to sick to call, he had arranged a trail ride for the two of them. He didn't quite know which trail they were going to choose, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that they were going to see each other again, finally. Eden had dressed for the occasion in black jodhpurs, a striped blue-and-black tee, and a light grey zippered jacket. It wasn't particularly cold outside but Eden's mother had always told him to stay warm when he was sick. He had stocked up the small saddlebag hanging from Envy's saddle with bottles of water, sandwiches (bought from a store; Eden didn't think Sky would have appreciated a homemade, peanut-butter-and-germ sandwich for her lunch), fruit salad, and a heap of echinacea drops for his sore throat. It was bound to be a lovely day, and he bounced with anticipation on the balls of his feet, eagerly standing next to a fully tacked-up Envy, ready and waiting to go. ________________________________________________________________________

It's been hours it's been days, It's been all I will remember. I could sit for hours finding new ways, To be awed each minute.

9:30. Good, she had time to get down to the stable in time. With a wide smile seemingly glued to her petite features, the girl slipped her phone into the small pocket of her jeans, the likes of which hugged every curve in her slim legs. They accentuated their length, causing her to look the slightest bit taller. Maybe. Well, that's what Sky liked to think. She hurried over to look at herself one last time in her full length mirror, which rested on the wall nearest to her window. Stopping in front of it, the teenager swept her gaze over herself, reaching up to make small fixes to her hair, and running her fingers through her honey-tinted bangs. The girl wore a loose shirt, in a lovely shade of faded purple, which resembled something like a longer version of a crop top. It was complete with a crooked peace sign, and she adjusted the soft material on her shoulders. Underneath she wore a white camisole, due to the fact that the shirt was a bit too short to be worn without one. Her jeans were a mottled mix of dusty creams, and dull, pale oranges. Upon her wrist lay two thick rubber bracelet's, something she had purchased during a stage of increased infatuation with NeverShoutNever. Around her neck was a simple chain, from which hung a heart pendant, heavily decorated with jewels and gems. A parting gift from her father when she had left for Windsor. Skyla's feet were clad in gleaming black riding boots, which extended up to her knees. The girl's light brunette locks were in massive curls, and the loose locks spilled around her shoulders softly, cascading down her back almost elegantly. As usual, Sky's bangs were swept across her forehead, and she reached her hand up once more to fix them. Finally satisfied with her appearance, the teenager skipped over to the door, locking it behind her. The reason for her being so made up so early in the morning-or early for her-was due to a single text she had received from Eden the day before. Meet me at the front of the stables, 10am tomorrow xx. She smiled at this, slowing to a walk as she exited to the girl's dorm building. The boy had wanted to see most had been stuck in his room, sick as a dog, leaving her to worry about him day and night. Sky had, of course, eagerly offered to help with Envy, the boy's gorgeous black mare. So, whenever she was finished with Dezzy for the day, she would go over to check on the mare, and comfort her with sweet words and murmurs; most of which consisted of the idea that Eden would be back to the barn in no time. By now, Sky was nearing the barn, and her excitement levels were rising. Nervously, she reached into her back pocket to get her phone, and anxiously played with it in her hands as she walked. Finally, the top of the barn came into view, and the rest slowly followed. A few more seconds, and Sky set her gaze on Eden and his mare, Envy, waiting patiently for Sky. The girl had known today they would probably be riding, but she had been in a jeans-wearing sort of mood, which had birthed her current outfit. Adopting a large smile, Sky laughed shortly, "Eden!" She called out, running toward him. She was sure a few people gave her odd stares, but she wasn't paying attention. All of the affection she had longed to give Eden for a week was being set free in one moment. It was doubtless her actions would look odd to outsiders. Reaching Eden, she wrapped her arms around him, enveloping him in a hug. Buying her face in his soft jacket, she stayed like that for several long moments, before pulling away. Looking up, she smiled at him, trailing a finger along his cheekbone. He looked sick. With a half frown, she poked his chest. "You're still sick. You should be in bed." She chided for a moment, before forgetting her argument, and placing a soft kiss on his lips. "I've missed you." She stated, her voice soft, and light.

He preoccupied himself while he was waiting by scratching Envy's cheek. The mare pushed her head into his hand, lapping up the attention. He had made a few trips down the stables in the last week to see her, but not as often as he'd liked to. It had been a process of several hours to pull himself out of bed, dress, make his way to the stables, and eventually reverse the process after the visit. It had taken more energy than Eden had possessed, but not much more. He'd managed. The precious minutes with his mare had kept him going through his awful week from hell. He couldn't believe he was about to ride again. It seemed too good to be true. Eden knew that Skyla had taken care of Envy while he was out of action, which he appreciated more than he could put into words. Envy had really taken a shine to Sky. She was a friendly mare, but particularly affectionate toward Sky. It pleased Eden, that his two best girls got on so well. He planted a kiss on Envy's soft black nose. Hearing his name called out, he responded automatically by turning his head. It was Sky. He broke into a huge grin, opening his arms wide and stepping away from Envy while keeping a hold on the reins. Having Sky back in his arms, feeling her heart beat feverishly next to his, was like they'd never been apart. It had been the longest week of his life.
His smile was huge as he hugged her as tightly as his sick body would allow. They stayed there, like that, wrapped tightly around each other, her head the perfect height below his. Releasing him, she looked up at him and admonished him for being out of bed. Laughing at her maternal tone, Eden was about to retort that if he spent another day in bed he would eventually become a mattress, when she kissed him. Eden forgot himself completely. He was beginning to realise that no matter how many times he kissed Sky, every time would feel like his first. When her lips retreated from his, he smiled. Me too. But you're going to get sick dow! Oh dough, he said with a little pout. It was totally worth it though. He would bring her chicken soup and tissues if she got sick.
We're going on a trail ride. You stay here, I'll go get Debby, he grinned. Passing her Envy's reins, he scuttled inside to Dezzy's stall. He greeted the big gelding with a tickle on his cheek, before scooping up the brush outside his stall. With quick and strong strokes, he removed most of the stall dust from the jet black coat. The gelding was tacked up within minutes, and Eden eagerly led him to where his owner and his girlfriend were waiting. Envy greeted her horse-lover with an eager whinny, nosing him curiously. Ready to go? You can take da lead, Eden smiled, handing Skyla Dezzy's reins. He collected Envy's reins and mounted her easily, settling into the saddle. He sighed with contentment. This was where he belonged. Sitting in the comfortable, worn leather was like he had been underwater and he could finally breathe again. He smiled across at Sky. Today was going to be perfect. He just knew it. ________________________________________________________________________

The teenager relished the feel of Eden's soft lips against her own. It was enough to make her weak at the knees, and empty her thoughts until she was only thinking about the boy. After every kiss they shared, Sky enjoyed a nice after-glow sort of thing, where she couldn't stop smiling, even if she tried. This she was doing at this moment, a crooked grin set firmly upon her features as she watched him. He had a smile on his face as well, and she laughed at his words. She didn't care if she got sick; it was totally worth kissing Eden. "It doesn't matter." She started, the beginnings of a suggestive smirk tugging at the corners of her pink lips. "Plus, it's been a week. There is so much more where that came from." Her hazel eyes gleamed deviously as she said this, smiling at the effect his stuffy nose was wreaking on his voice. It was adorable, the way he struggled around some of the words, due to he fact he couldn't pronounce them as he normally would. Sky loved trail rides. Of course, her horse didn't always agree, and she was careful which trails she chose, due to the fact that anything too dense would result in him jumping at everything. The teenager had learned that Dezzy was not a trail horse the hard way, after taking him out alone. Some hospital visit that had been. Sky grinned at the thought, flashing Eden a thumbs up, and accepting the reins from his open hands. He trolloped off into the barn, she was assuming to get Dez, so she turned to Envy and placed a soft hand on her nose. She stroked the black mare gently, leaning in to place a gentle kiss on the end of her velvet muzzle. Skyla straightened her shirt once again, more out of nervous habit than anything else. She placed a hand on Envy's cheek, scratching it idly, thinking for a few moments. Which trail would be the best? She had heard that there were a few open fields. That would be a cool thing to try out; she and her black monster hardly ever had the opportunity to have fun in a nice open place; or one that wasn't surrounded by fence, or filled with sand. Looking around, she noticed the neat little saddle bags hanging over Envy's saddle. Raising her eyebrows, she leaned closer, opening them to peek inside. Awww. He packed a little lunch. How sweet! She thought, giggling lightly, her cheeks taking on a pink tint. Sky closed the saddle bag, and leaned closer to the lithe black equine, smiling into her cheek. "He's too sweet, girl." The heavy sound of her horses feet floated to her ears, and she looked up to see Eden coming back with a rather docile Dezzy. She smiled at Eden, switching reins with him, and reached up to pat her gelding on the cheek lovingly. "Are you being a good boy to Eden? She cooed, kissing his nose as he lowered it the whuffle her shoulder. She noticed he was already tacked and grinned up at Eden, who had mounted Envy. She led her tall horse over to a nearby hay bale, and used that to add more height, so that she could slide on his back easily. Skyla reached up to fix her bangs, turning Dezzy around, and nudging him over so that he stood close to her boyfriend's mare. The black male stuck his nose over, nickering lightly at the mare he had grown so attached to. Dezzy lipped at her nose playfully, before withdrawing his head to point it where a group of kids were being noisy. The teenage girl looked down at Eden-finally feeling tall for once-and grinned. "Which trail do you want to take? Nothing too foresty or dense, unless you want Dez to flip out," She teased lightly, her hazel eyes dancing deviously. "I'll just follow you." She paused for a moment, before going on, shielding her eyes from the bright morning sun. "Oh, I saw the lunch by the way. Good idea. We'll probably be out here all day." She added, smiling at the prospect her words held. She couldn't wait to spend her day with Eden-she had been waiting for this for a whole week. It was going to be fun.
